About Our Trip
This was our second trip to Shenandoah. You can read more about Shenandoah and the Skyline Drive in our previous post about the park.
We decided to come back to Shenandoah to complete some of the popular hikes that we did not get to do during our first trip.
We avoided the Skyline Drive this time around as it is a very slow and windy road. Although a beautiful scenic drive worth doing at least once, it can make you nauseous if you are prone to motion sickness, like me, and significantly increase your travel time to hikes. We opted to take the quicker highway routes to get to the hikes.
This second trip was exactly one year after our first visit. March weather can be very unpredictable so we packed for all possible temperatures. Some cold weather entered the area during our trip. We had to hike in light snow the last two days but, luckily, there was not much snow accumulation. Thank goodness for hand warmers!
One other point to note, our previous longing location, the town of Madison, VA, was much more conveniently located to the most popular hikes than the one we rented this time. Except for Furnace Mountain hike, our driving was from 1.5 – 2 hours each way. If you plan to spend most of your time hiking, aim to rent a place near Madison.
More details about each hike in the coming posts!
